Steam Wheels is a cosy 2.5D train game that focusses on the joy of playing with steam trains.

All hand drawn and being built by a dev duo who are putting playability and fun at the forefront of the game goals.

Gameplay

All Aboard!

The game has players drive trains with logically based steam controls, ferrying passengers, racing bosses and delivering mail.

All this across creatively built routes and maps, all built in Unreal Engine; and all completely hand-drawn.

Steam Wheels:

150 steam trains to play with.
Build your own trains using 100s of wagons, carriages etc.
Randomised missions along routes for replayability.
Steam controls built with real life logic and data.
Cosy controls for those who like a more relaxed approach to driving.
All hand drawn.

XP and levelling system to unlock ‘World’ trains, routes and missions.
Bosses to race against, winning their train setup.
Custom soundtrack by Scottish band ‘Swiss Portrait’.
Being built in English, Welsh and Scottish Gaelic.

Game Features

Trains

Spanning all eras of steam trains and a few heritage diesels to boot, Steam Wheels aims to give the player a vast collection of driveable trains at their fingertips. Got an engine in mind? Let us know and we’ll try our best to put it in the game!

Routes and Maps

Custom drawn, uniquely laid out maps await you in Steam Wheels. From foggy downs to spanning countryside. Where would you like to whizz through or to? The choice is yours!

Rolling Stock

From early stages of passenger transport to creaky coal wagons, Steam Wheels has it all. Create your own set up before embarking on your journey; but be careful, don’t overload your train or you won’t be going anywhere fast.

Controls

Choose between Cosy Mode or Steam Mode to get the most out of Steam Wheels. Chill with cosy mode and drive trains, watch the world fly by and relax. Or get to know the trains better, battle it out with steam, water and temperature.

Heritage

We are linking up with some of the UK’s most wonderful Heritage Railway sites. Our future phases of the game will bring these sites into the Steam Wheels world; helping Heritage along the way.
